Medford, Mass (December 12, 2007) Preotle, Lane & Associates, developer of RiversEdge, today announced that the first building in the project has received recognition as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Core and Shell (LEED®-CS) project from the U.S. Green Building Council.
RiversEdge is an inner-suburban, master-planned development in Medford, Malden and Everett, Massachusetts. Phase I of the 30-acre mixed-use development, when completed, will consist of approximately 220 luxury rental housing units, three contemporary office buildings with an aggregate of 410,000 square feet and an elegant 10-acre riverfront park.
The initial building at RiversEdge will approximate 115,000 square feet on four levels sited to maximize river and park views with non-river exposures opening to a two-acre landscaped plaza. A two-sided lobby will bring the outdoor landscape materials inside. Other distinctive features of the building, designed by the internationally renowned architectural firm Gensler, include efficient floor plates and core layouts with virtually column-free space as well as seven feet of continuous high performance vision glass for increased day lighting.
"This project is about the transformation of a former brownfield site into a truly green environment," said Douglas Gensler, Principal/Managing Director of Gensler. "We are pleased that the initial office building has received LEED pre-certification at the Gold level by the USGBC. It is our understanding that this is the first project to receive Gold in the greater Boston area."
Upon completion of the project in 2009 and pending final documentation and review, the office buildings at RiversEdge would be in position to be among the first LEED certified office buildings in Greater Boston.
